RSE Parental Consultation October 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Due to the Department for Education changes to the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum, we are undertaking a review our RSE curriculum and policy. This is so that we can be sure our RSE provision is appropriate for our pupils based on their:

  • Age
  • Physical and emotional maturity
  • Religious and cultural backgrounds
  • Special educational needs and/or disabilities

The statutory information can be found at: Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

The guidance focuses on healthy relationships and keeping children safe in the modern world. It also covers a range of topics relating to physical and mental health, wellbeing, safeguarding and healthy relationships. Learning about emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up will give children and young people the information, skills and positive values to have safe, fulfilling relationships and help them to take responsibility for their own well-being. RSE, along with Health Education, is statutory and forms part of the National Curriculum.

As a part of your child’s education, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.

Here’s how you can help:

We’re carrying out a RSE Parent Consultation Survey online, to gather parental thoughts about the changes to our RSE policy, which you can find below:

To help to inform you about the curriculum requirements, we have attached the documents below which we would encourage you to read. This includes:

Here is the link to the form “RSE Parent Consultation”:

We will be starting our consultation on 8.10.21 and the consultation closes on 18.10. 21. Your views are important to us and we will respond to you with the outcome of this process later this term.

Once we have considered all feedback, the updated Relationship and Sex Education Policy will be uploaded on the school’s website which will also set out the school’s curriculum.

We hope you find this letter and the attached information useful. If you have any queries or concerns regarding this consultation, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Yours sincerely,

Lynsey Kelly
